Dubuque, IA – Caden Dabrowski's first USHL hat trick and Olle Därth's overtime winner helped the Dubuque Fighting Saints (6-6-0-0, 12 pts) to a 5-4 win over the Sioux City Musketeers (4-6-1-0, 9 pts) on Saturday night.
The Fighting Saints started quickly on Saturday as Dabrowski scored his fourth goal of the season just 14 seconds into the first period of the matchup with the Musketeers. His linemates Arsienii Voroteliak and Melvin Ekman assisted on the first shift of the game for Dubuque to take the early lead.
As the opening frame was winding down, the trio converted again as Dabrowski scored his fifth of the season with 5:31 to play to give Dubuque a 2-0 lead into the second frame. The lead, however, dissipated quickly to start the second and begin a back-and-forth battle the rest of the game.
Jake Merens scored at 3:42 of the second before TJ Hale scored 1:47 later to tie the game for the Musketeers. The Saints' top line had an answer shortly after.
Dabrowski, once again set up by Ekman and Voroteliak, scored his third goal of the game at 8:18 of the second period. His first-career hat trick gave Dubuque a 3-2 lead at 8:18 of the second period as the top trio combined for a third tally.
Again, the Saints added to their lead to go ahead by two in the game. Max Lind scored on a feed from Lincoln Krizizke at 15:53 of the second and the Saints entered the third with a two goal advantage.
To begin the third, the Musketeers scored twice in the first six minutes for the second-straight period. Wyatt Sypniewski buried Sioux City's third goal at 1:57 of the third before Merens' second of the game tied the contest at 5:38.
In overtime, Därth picked up a puck in his own zone and passed to Kris Richards in the neutral zone. Richards found Cruz Martin streaking into the offensive zone in his Dubuque debut. Martin found Därth on the circle, who fired home his sixth goal of the season to clinch the sweep for Dubuque.
The Saints outshot the Musketeers 31 to 17 in the victory as they secured a third-straight win for the first time this season.
