The Fighting Saints organization is seeking welcoming host families who can provide a comfortable, stable, and family-oriented living environment for our players throughout the season. Host families play an essential role in the development and overall experience of these young athletes, providing support, guidance, and a home away from home for our athletes as they pursue their hockey and academic goals.
Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Become a Billet Family for the Dubuque Fighting Saints?
Getting started is easy. Simply complete the Housing Interest Form below, and a member of our Housing Team will contact you to discuss the program, answer your questions, and learn more about your family and home environment.
What Are the Requirements to Become a Billet Family?
To ensure a safe and positive experience for all players, league guidelines require that every adult (18 years of age and older) residing in the home complete a background screening and the USA Hockey SafeSport Training program.
Do Billet Families Need to Live Close to the Arena?
Yes. We strive to place players in homes located within 15 miles or 20 minutes of the rink whenever possible. We also make every effort to house players within reasonable proximity to one another, typically within 30 minutes, to support transportation, team camaraderie, and player well-being.
What Accommodations Are Required for a Player?
Billet families are asked to provide:
- A private bedroom for the player
- Access to a bathroom separate from the billet parents and young children (sharing with male children in the household is acceptable)
- Reliable internet service and Wi-Fi access
- A welcoming, supportive, and family-oriented home environment
Our goal is to ensure each player has a comfortable place to live, study, rest, and prepare for the demands of a competitive hockey season.
When Are Players in Dubuque?
Players typically arrive in Dubuque for preseason camp around September 1 and remain with their billet families throughout the season. Depending on playoff participation, players generally stay until April or May.
