Fighting Five: Saints Finish Weekend at NTDP

Dubuque Takes on U17s to Finish Road Trip at USA

Plymouth, MI - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (3-6-0-0, 6 pts) visit the USA NTDP U17 (1-2-0-0, 2 pts) on Saturday night to continue a three-game weekend against the NTDP.

Here are five things to know ahead of the matchup:

1. Super Scoring

The Fighting Saints battled in a 7-5 loss on Saturday night to the U18s, erasing a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at four in the third period. The Saints trailed 4-1 and 5-4 in the game before tying the game each time.

Despite the comeback efforts, a late goal in the third period by the U18s gave USA the lead and the Saints could not find a way back after that.

2. Quadruple Vision

Two Fighting Saints logged four points in the loss to the U18s on Saturday as Caden Dabrowski and Olle Därth each recorded two goals and two assists.

Dabrowski recorded his second four-point game of the season and fourth of his career. Därth set a career-high with four points in the loss.

3. Power Push

The Fighting Saints entered Saturday's matchup against the U18s having scored six power-play goals in eight games this season. On Saturday, Dubuque scored four power-play goals on six chances and gained nearly 10 percentage points on their power play.

Dubuque is now operating at 25% on the season after two power-play goals from Dabrowski, one from Därth and another from Melvin Ekman. Dubuque has scored 10 power-play goals on 40 chances this season.

4. Sunday Saints

The Fighting Saints wrap up their first three-game weekend of the season on Sunday, taking on a U17s squad that has not played since Tuesday.

In the first two games of the weekend, Dubuque's goaltenders each played a game. Luke Carrithers made 17 saves on Friday night before Brandon Wright made 15 on Saturday.

5. National Notes

The U17s enter with a power play off to a torrid start to the USHL season. The U17s have seven power-play goals on 13 chances, led by Jack Trupiano's three power-play goals.

The U17s played a pair of high-scoring games against Tri-City, losing 7-4 and winning 8-5 last weekend. On Tuesday, the younger NTDP squad visited Youngstown and dropped a contest to the Phantoms 7-2.

Sunday's game begins at 3:00 CT and can be found on Eagle 102.3 and USAHockey TV.
