DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints finished out their preseason with a 5-1 victory over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders at home on Saturday night.
Dubuque put a bow on a preseason in which the Fighting Saints won three of their four tune-up contests. They scored 20 goals in those four games and allowed just 12. Half of those 12 came in the preseason opener against Green Bay.
Juraj Pekarcik continued his hot preseason on Saturday, scoring twice in the win. He finished the preseason with three goals and five points. That mark tied Pekarcik for the team lead in the exhibition season with Erik Påhlsson and Josh Giuliani. All three of those players scored twice and assisted three times in the preseason.
Kevin Reidler shined again for Dubuque, winning his second start of the preseason. He made 22 saves on 23 shots in the contest after going 23 for 25 last Saturday in Chicago.The Saints also picked up goals from Gavin Cornforth, Michael Barron and Noah Powell. The latter two scored their first of the preseason, while Cornforth scored for the second-consecutive game.
Dubuque outshot Cedar Rapids 32 to 23 in the victory on Saturday night, taking a 2-0 lead early and never surrendering the advantage from there.
The Fighting Saints open the regular season on Saturday, September 23rd against the USA NTDP at the USHL Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania.Â
The Saints' home opener will be played against Waterloo on Sept. 29th.
