DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (16-6-1-2, 35 pts) took down the Sioux City Musketeers (15-7-5-0, 35 pts) 2-1 in overtime on Thursday night.
After the Fighting Saints allowed the game-tying goal with 1:19 left in regulation, Lucas St. Louis drew a penalty just 31 seconds into overtime.
The Saints' power-play, which went 0-for-5 in regulation, got the puck to the point for Seamus Powell. His blast bounced in front and Nick Romeo netted the rebound for the game-winner. The goal was Romeo's sixth of the season and first-career overtime goal.
Thursday's matchup featured the two highest-scoring offenses in the USHL, but the contest ended up a tight, defensive matchup. Thatcher Bernstein, who made just his seventh appearance of the season, made 21 saves on 22 shots for his fourth win of the season.
The Saints' penalty kill was perfect for the second-straight game, killing off all three Sioux City power plays. The Musketeers entered the night with the best power play in the league.
Andrew King's goal at 9:18 of the first held up until Sioux City's tying goal with 1:19 left in regulation. The goal was King's second goal of the season, and first since the season-opener on Sept. 23.
Dubuque continues its three-in-three on Friday night in Cedar Rapids.
