Dubuque, IA – Former Fighting Saints forward Owen Michaels is scheduled to make his NHL debut on Tuesday when the Edmonton Oilers open their season against the Vancouver Canucks.

Michaels finished a standout career with the Western Michigan University Broncos last spring, winning the 2025 National Championship and being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Michaels skated for the Broncos for three seasons after finishing his junior career with the Fighting Saints in 2022-23.

After completing his college career last spring, Michaels signed an entry-level contract with the Oilers. Over the summer, he inked an extension for the next two seasons.

"As an organization we are so proud for Owen to have earned this opportunity," said Fighting Saints Head Coach Evan Dixon, who was an assistant while Michaels was in Dubuque. "His hard work, perseverance and focused mindset throughout his junior and college careers has led him to this point. Viewed as a bit of an 'underdog,' his path serves as such a great example for all young players chasing their dreams of playing in the NHL. I can confidently say that none of us in Dubuque are surprised. We cannot wait to watch him do his thing."

Michaels scored 15 goals and 26 points in 46 games for Dubuque in the 2022-23 season following a successful 2022 Main Camp that helped land him a roster spot as a free agent. Michaels added eight points in five playoff games that season for the Fighting Saints.

Overall, Michaels scored 33 goals for Western Michigan in his three-year college career. Michaels is slated for his first professional game on Tuesday in Edmonton, where former Fighting Saints General Manager Kalle Larsson serves as the Assistant General Manager, Player Development and Innovation.

Michaels will join Matthew Savoie as former Fighting Saints on the Oilers this season. Tuesday's Oilers game will begin at 9 p.m. CT.
