Dubuque, IA – Former Fighting Saints forward Owen Michaels has signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers.
Michaels just finished up a standout career with the Western Michigan University Broncos, winning the 2025 National Championship and being named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Michaels skated for the Broncos for three seasons after finishing his junior career with the Fighting Saints in 2022-23.
"What a story," said Fighting Saints Head Coach Evan Dixon, who was an assistant while Michaels was in Dubuque. "Owen made our team as a free agent out of main camp and became captain of his team at Western Michigan and a national champion. Owen's perseverance is inspiring and we couldn't be more proud for him to sign his NHL contract with Edmonton."
Michaels scored 15 goals and 26 points in 46 games for Dubuque following his successful 2022 Main Camp. Michaels added eight points in five playoff games that season for the Fighting Saints.
Overall, Michaels scored 33 goals for Western Michigan in his three-year college career. Michaels signs his first professional contract with Edmonton, where former Fighting Saints General Manager Kalle Larsson serves as the Sr. Director of Player Development.
Michaels is the third Fighting Saint to sign a professional contract since this spring following the NCAA season, joining Noah Powell (PHI) and Kevin Reidler (OTT).
