Dubuque, IA – With time winding down the opening period, Olle Därth's second goal of the period tied the game and began a stretch of six-straight goals for the Dubuque Fighting Saints (8-7-1-0, 17 pts) in a 7-2 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks (7-6-0-2, 16 pts) on Saturday night.
Därth's ninth of the season tied the game at two after the Saints trailed twice in the first period. The Saints' leading scorer helped erase 1-0 and 2-0 deficits to hand the Saints the momentum headed into the second period.
Early in the second, Luke Brierley capitalized on that momentum with his second goal of the season to give the Saints their first lead at 2:19 of the middle frame. Caden Dabrowski and Kris Richards assisted as Dabrowski began a three-point night. About six minutes later, David Thomasson wristed in his fourth of the season from Lincoln Krizizke and Trevor Theuer.
With a two-goal lead, Dabrowski blocked a shot on the next shift and sprung the Saints ahead. Cruz Martin and Därth fed Dabrowski into the zone where the forward made a between-the-legs move to the net and scored past goaltender Oscar Westman. The highlight-reel goal put the Saints ahead 5-2 just 38 seconds after Thomasson's tally.
Late in the second, Joe Wahlund scored his first USHL goal from Dabrowski and Theuer. Dabrowski and Därth recorded three points in the win and Theuer logged his first two-assist game of the season. Lincoln Krizizke recorded his second multi-assist game in the last three and has nine assists overall.
In the third, the Saints finished the night with Thomasson's second goal, assisted by Joseph Covelluzzi.
Dubuque launched 33 pucks on net in the game, chasing Westman after six goals in the first two periods. It was the third-straight game the Fighting Saints recorded at least 30 shots on goal.
The Saints finished the weekend with a split against the Jacks and head into next weekend's series with Des Moines in second place in the Eastern Conference.
