DUBUQUE, IA - Led by Jake Sondreal's pair of goals in his 100th career USHL game, the Dubuque Fighting Saints (27-9-3-3, 60 pts) defeated the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (16-20-4-2, 38 pts) 6-3 on Friday night.
For the second-straight Friday night at home against the Riders, the Saints allowed the first goal and answered with four-consecutive tallies. Just like the last meeting, Cedar Rapids answered with a goal to make it 4-2. The difference on Friday between the win and last week's overtime loss came after the second Riders goal. Dubuque added two more in the third to take a stranglehold on the contest.
After Colin Grable's opener, Sondreal scored his 19th from Nick Romeo and James Reeder. In his 100th career game, Sondreal spearheaded the Saints win with his two tallies and his league-leading 54th point.
Following Sondreal's first goal, Colin Frank scored his first goal since Dec. 9th as he pickpocketed a Riders' player and fired the puck into the net to give Dubuque its first lead with 4:11 to go in the first.
In the second, Noah Powell scored his 23rd of the season to put the Saints ahead by a pair on the power play. Sondreal then opened the third with a power-play goal of his own to reach the 20-goal mark. Both Saints power-play scorers pushed into a tie for the league-lead with 10 power-play tallies.
Charlie Arend and Fisher Scott each scored their sixth goals of the season to finish off the win in the third period.Â
Kevin Reidler made 13 saves in his 18th victory of the season, the third-most in the USHL.
The Saints continue their three-in-three weekend on the road, matching up with the Des Moines Buccaneers on Saturday.Â
