DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (20-8-1-3, 44 pts) dropped their weekend finale 6-3 to the Muskegon Lumberjacks (18-11-1-1, 38 pts) on Saturday night.
For the second-straight night, Dubuque opened the scoring early in the game. Noah Powell scored his first of two on the night just 2:08 into the game after a Michael Barron faceoff-win. However, after Powell's tally, the Saints allowed three-unanswered goals from Muskegon.
A Powell power-play goal for his 13th of the season brought the Saints back within one 8:43 into the second period. The Saints power play ended the night with one goal in six chances.
Muskegon scored to extend its lead to 4-2 with just 12.9 seconds left in the second period to go back up by two into the third. With a 5-2 deficit, Jake Sondreal scored his 15th of the season while the Saints had pulled Thatcher Bernstein for the extra skater. Sondreal's tally made it a two-goal game again with 1:34 left.
The Lumberjacks added an empty-netter shortly after to ice the game. Bernstein made 22 saves on 27 shots in the loss.Â
The Saints hit the road next week for a pair of road games against the USA U17 NTDP.
