PLYMOUTH, MI - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (21-8-1-3, 46 pts) scored twice in nine seconds to take a lead in the second and win 6-1 over the USA NTDP U17 (2-12-1-1, 6 pts) team.
After USA tied the game early in the second, the Fighting Saints earned a power play shortly after. Noah Powell's 14th of the season on the power play preceded Juraj Pekarcik's 6th by just nine seconds and the Saints took a two-goal lead.
The nine-second stretch started the Saints on their way to scoring five-unanswered goals and finishing a 6-1 victory.Â
In the win, the Fighting Saints scored twice on the power play and killed off their lone penalty-kill chance.Â
Dubuque had contributions from their three players who returned from the World Juniors, with Juraj Pekarcik extending his point-streak to 11 games, Joona Väisänen scoring a goal and Kevin Reidler stopping 23 of 24 shots.
Erik Påhlsson, Fisher Scott and James Reeder all added tallies in the win as well. Dubuque finished its win with three third-period goals.
The two teams meet again on Saturday night in Plymouth with puck-drop scheduled for 6 p.m. CST.
