CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints came from behind with a four-goal third period on Thursday night to defeat the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 7-3 on the road.
After falling behind 2-0 in the span of 24 seconds, the Saints responded less than two minutes later with Andrew King's first of two goals in the contest. Beginning with King's goal, the Saints finished the game scoring seven of the game's final eight goals.
The Saints never led on Thursday until Gavin Cornforth scored his first goal of the preseason on the power play at 8:59 of the third. From there, the Saints scored three more unanswered to take command of the game.
Josh Giuliani and Erik Påhlsson continued their scorching preseasons, each adding points to their ledger in the win. Giuliani recorded a pair of assists, while Påhlsson scored once and assisted once.
Saints forward Chase LaPinta announced his presence in the preseason in a big way on Thursday, scoring twice and recording a three-point night.
The Saints ended the night three-for-six on the power play and have scored five power-play goals in their three preseason games. The team is averaging five goals-per-game in the preseason.
On the backend, Thatcher Bernstein made his preseason debut and was tested. He stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced. Bernstein followed up Kevin Reidler's performance in Saturday's win with another strong outing by a Saints' goaltender.
Dubuque is back in action on Saturday when it wraps up the preseason against Cedar Rapids at home. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CST at ImOn Arena.
