Fighting Saints Earn Point, Fall in Shootout

Norton Stands Tall in Saints’ Net

DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (19-6-1-3, 42 pts) dropped a shootout on Saturday to the Waterloo Black Hawks (15-11-0-0, 30 pts) 1-0 at ImOn Arena.

After combining for 30 goals in the first three meetings, the Saints and Hawks skated to a scoreless tie through 65 minutes.

James Norton made 29 saves on 29 shots in his third USHL game. In the shootout, Norton stopped the first two Waterloo chances, but allowed the only goal of the shootout on the third chance.

Special teams were a factor in regulation, with both teams failing to score on multiple power-play opportunities. The Saints penalty kill stopped all six Waterloo chances, while the Saints couldn't score on their four opportunities.

These two teams will meet again on Sunday evening to wrap up the 2023 calendar in Waterloo. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CST.
