DUBUQUE, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (14-5-1-2, 31 pts) dropped their second-straight game on Saturday night 7-4 to the Lincoln Stars (6-13-0-2, 14 pts).
Dubuque started the game quickly with James Reeder scoring his seventh of the season just 15 seconds into the game. Reeder, on his way to a hat trick, scored again 5:06 into the first.Â
The Saints then gave up five of the next six goals in the game before Reeder finished his hat trick with 4:02 left in the second. All three of Reeder's goals were assisted by linemates Jake Sondreal and Juraj Pekarcik.
After Reeder's first two goals, the Saints allowed a pair before the end of the first. Then, just under four minutes into the second period, Ethan Weber gave Lincoln its first lead. Noah Powell answered less than five minutes later with his sixth goal of the season, but the Saints never found the lead again.
Lincoln scored twice in 25 seconds toward the end of the second period before Reeder's third tally and never gave up the lead.
The Saints power play struggled again for the second-straight night. The man-advantage, despite Chase LaPinta and Erik Påhlsson returning to the lineup, went scoreless in five opportunities. The power play failed on all nine chances this weekend.
With the loss on Saturday Påhlsson's league-long 11-game point streak ended. He finished the streak with seven goals and eight assists in the 11-game stretch.
Saturday's defeat is just the first time the Fighting Saints have lost two-straight games in regulation this season.
Dubuque faces Des Moines again on Friday at home for the fourth time in five games.Â
