WATERLOO, IA - The Dubuque Fighting Saints (9-1-1-1, 20 pts) scored four times in the third period on Saturday to erase a two-goal deficit and beat the Waterloo Black Hawks (5-5-0-0, 10 pts) 6-5.
Just 24 seconds into the third period, the Saints allowed a fourth Black Hawks goal to go down 4-2. From there, Dubuque's league-best power play took control of the game. Jake Sondreal converted on the first of two power plays in short succession for Dubuque to bring the Saints within one at 6:37 of the third. Less than four minutes later, Lucas St. Louis netted the tying goal on the second power play of that stretch.
The Dubuque power play went two-for-five in the win on Saturday, finishing the game with two goals on three chances in the third. The Fighting Saints have scored a league-leading 19 power-play goals this season.
At 14:20, Erik Påhlsson scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season to put Dubuque in front 5-4. They never relinquished the lead after that.Â
Two Saints scored twice in the win (Sondreal and Jayden Jubenvill), while six Saints recorded multiple points. James Reeder recorded a career-high three assists in the victory, setting up both of Sondreal's tallies and Jubenvill's first.
After Sondreal opened the scoring at 15:17 of the first, the Saints allowed the tying goal just 1:31 later. Dubuque never led again until Påhlsson's go-ahead goal late in the second period.
Kevin Reidler stopped 30 of 35 shots from Waterloo en route to his sixth win of the season.
Dubuque has won four-straight games and hit the road next weekend to face the undefeated Fargo Force and the Sioux City Musketeers. Fargo is the only team to beat the Saints in regulation this season.
