DUBUQUE, IA — Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Noah Powell has announced his commitment to play college hockey at The Ohio State University. Powell, 17, is in his first season with the Fighting Saints and his first season in the USHL. Through six games this season, the Northbrook, Illinois native has one goal and one assist.
"I'm super excited," said Powell. "It's close to home, Big Ten school, and they have great facilities. The coaching staff at Ohio State was great with me and getting to know me, my girlfriend, and my family. I felt like they went above and beyond in this process."
Powell will join current Fighting Saint defenseman Theo Wallberg as commitments to play for Ohio State. He spent the 2021- 22 season with the Chicago Mission 16U AAA program. Prior to that, Powell spent two years with Shattuck St. Mary's.
"We're excited Noah is committed to [Ohio State]," said Fighting Saints Head Coach Kirk MacDonald. "We expect big things from him here in Dubuque as he develops with us and are excited to see that process. Our staff looks forward to helping him get to the next stage of his career."
Fighting Saints General Manager and President of Hockey operations Kalle Larson also added, "Noah's physical strength combined with a versatile skillset has served him well so far in his first USHL season. He attracted interest from several schools and was diligent in his process selecting where to continue his career post-junior hockey. We are happy for Noah and congratulate his entire family on the commitment to Ohio State."
Powell becomes the 12th Fighting Saint currently on roster to announce their commitment to play Division 1 college hockey. He joins fellow forwards Shawn O'Donnell (UMass Lowell), Max Montes (St. Cloud State), and James Reeder (Denver).
