Colorado Springs, CO — Dubuque Fighting Saints Associate Head Coach Evan Dixon was named to the Team USA World Junior A Challenge coaching staff today by U.S.A Hockey.
Dixon, who is in his fourth year with the Fighting Saints, will join Team USA as an assistant coach for this Decembers World Junior A Challenge. It will be Dixon's first time representing his home country on the international stage.
"This is a well earned opportunity for Evan Dixon and a testament to his caliber as a coach," said Kalle Larsson, the Fighting Saints General Manager and President of Hockey Operations. "Representing the United States on the international stage is an honor, and we are proud of him being named to this coaching staff."
This years World Junior A Challenge is being held in Cornwall, Ontario from December 11th to the 18th. In that span, Dixon will miss X GAMES for Dubuque while away from the team.
The World Junior A Challenge is similar to the the World Junior Championships but is represented by a different pool of players. There are a total of five teams and four countries being represented at the World Junior A Challenge each year with Canada (two teams, East & West) and the United States being mainstays. The American teams are primarily comprised of USHL players, while the Canadian teams are composed of Junior A players (AJHL, MJHL, SJHL, CCHL, etc.).
Prior to joining the Fighting Saints, Dixon spent two years as an assistant at his alma-mater, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where he was a one time alternate captain and two time captain. He also played professionally for one year with the Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
