Owen Michaels Makes Commitment to Western Michigan

Fighting Saints Centerman will Join Broncos

DUBUQUE, IA — Dubuque Fighting Saints forward Owen Michaels announced on Friday night his commitment to continue his hockey and academic career at Western Michigan University. Michaels, who is in his first season with the Fighting Saints, has produced four goals along with one assist through 12 games to open the season.

Michaels has found his stride offensively of late for the Saints with three goals over his last six games. The Detroit native has also given Dubuque solid minutes in all situations and has provided an
aggressive mindset. He currently ranks second on the Fighting Saints with 30 penalty minutes.

Before joining the Fighting Saints prior to this season, Michaels had spent parts of two seasons with the Lincoln Stars between 2018 and 2020 and most recently played for the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL from 2020 to 2022. Combined, Michaels produced 53 points in 91 NAHL games and to date has 21 points in 61 USHL games.

Western Michigan is led by head coach Pat Ferschweiler who is in the middle of his second season behind the bench as head coach. The Broncos as of this writing are 8-6-0 and are 3-2-0 in the highly competitive NCHC.
